This week, we began our journey into hybrid learning. We’ve learned many new schedules, routines and expectations. We've worked through some technology issues and other challenges. What worked and what did not? For all students both in the room and in the Zoom, our priorities remain being safe, showing empathy for other and being ONE COMMUNITY. This will take GRACE.
No School - Monday April 26th.
This Monday is different from Asynchronous Mondays. Teachers will not have office hours, post updates or take attendance. I hope the weather is nice and you can enjoy some time outdoors. Teachers and staff will be attending an all-day professional development.
Wisconsin Forward Exams:
6th grade students will be taking the Math Forward exams this week during in-person learning. Ms. Kempinen will be posting assignments & activities for students on virtual learning days and provide instructions for attendance expectations. Testing will occur during their designated Math periods, and will not impact Advisory, Social Studies, Science or UA class schedules.
The following week, May 3-7, our students will be taking ELA Forward Exams.
UA Classes:
Weekly updates from UA teachers can found here
Please remind students that they need to fill out a google form for attendance for UA classes on the days they do not have a UA; this includes Mondays and other days where their class does not meet.
Literacy:
Work continues on our final unit connected to the idea: What does it take to be successful? Just as with our previous units, we will be ready a number of texts with different messages connected to the idea of success. Students will be reading and discussing the author's messages, and collecting evidence from each texts to support the author's message. Students are collecting this information into their Q4 Focus Notes, so that they can write about the texts in their Final Essays. This week we will be reading an interview with Malala Yousafzai: A Normal Yet Powerful Girl.
Here's a trailer from a documentary film made about Malala for some background information.
Social Studies:
During this unit our focus is understanding and evaluating the similarities and differences between different belief systems such as Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam. As people from different cultures came into contact, they brought with them their beliefs systems and knowledge. In this unit we will be evaluating why belief systems spread during this era and how different belief systems influenced human communities and the formation of societies and empires.
