5th Grade Math - We are trying to get as much done in our final unit on Decimals and Fractions. Students are learning about decimal place values down to thousandths, and ten thousandths, and also learning about converting decimals to fractions ex. 1/4 = 0.25.
5th Grade Writing - 5th graders completed 5 paragraph Persuasive Essays on chosen subjects, and have started their final major writing piece of the year. Using the skills we learned writing our Persuasive Essays, students have been asked to write to the following prompt: Ancient Greece is often referred to as the "Cradle of Western Civilization." Provide evidence of Greek influence on modern society.
The class brainstormed what areas we have covered in our Theme Unit on Ancient Greece where we still see evidence of Greek culture in our modern society, like architecture, math and science, and art and theater. This week they will be drafting, editing and finishing their essays independently.
Alder East Writing and Theme -
Last week students pairs performed brief skits based on selected Greek myths, it was very fun and creative. Many groups incorporated Greek masks, and used a narrator or chorus to tell the story like they were part of ancient Greek plays.
Theme last week and this week is dominated by Independent Projects. These Project presentations have been really wonderful, creative and well-done. I look forward to the rest this week.
If you have any questions about the projects please let me know.
