We are studying Chapter 19 - The Geography and Early Settlement of China. We are studying the physical features, climate and vegetation of the five major regions of China - the Tibet-Qinghai Plateau, the Northwestern Deserts, the NorthEastern Plains, the Chang Jiang Basin, and the North China Plain. Each region is vary different. Inner China (North China Plain & Chang Jiang Basin) are much better suited for settlement than Outer China because of their physical features (land), their climate (weather) and vegetation (whether you can grow crops or not).

This week we started our Traits and Reproduction Unit. Our Big Question is: Why do traits vary between parents, offspring and siblings? In humans, traits can be things like hair color, eye color, etc. So why doesn't everyone in a family have the same traits? We're examining this question by looking at variations in spider silk. We're studying a family of Darwin Bark Spiders, and trying to find out why the parents and offspring have different silk flexibility. We're trying to find spiders with medium flexible silk because scientists think the silk could be used to replace injured tendons and ligaments in people.
