Students will learn about the variety of college options & develop a better understanding of how you can benefit from college. Sorry for the late notice. Notification forms were sent home with students today.
Forward Testing - Testing this year will begin the week of March 23rd, which is the week before spring break. This is when the test window opens, and we decided to do testing ASAP to accommodate for other spring happenings, and the MAP test which takes place the first week of May. 6th grade has to take 4 sections of ELA, and 2 of math.
Learning Opportunity - Girls in grades 6 through 9 are invited to Tech Savvy 2020 on Sat., March 14 at UW-Whitewater. The day-long workshop will feature exciting hands-on workshop sessions led by female STEM professionals. The event is designed to encourage middle school girls to consider careers in the STEM fields. The event is co-hosted by UW-Whitewater Science Outreach Coordinator, UW-Whitewater Office of Continuing Education, and American Association of University Women.
Registration is now open. The sessions are first-come, first served. A parent or mentor is encouraged to attend with each girl but is not required. The cost for the full day including lunch is only $10 per person. More information and online registration can be found at uww.edu/ce/camps/additional/techsavvy
Language Arts - From Mr. Accomando
3rd quarter English Language Arts kicked off with Project Soap Box. Students selected topics that they felt strongly about and researched in order to write a speech that was designed to inform as well as give a "call to action". Students presented their speeches in front of the class which took courage. Some students competed on a school wide level and then on to a district level.
The second half of the 3rd quarter will be focused on debates and argumentative writing. We will be conducting more research on topics and learning the art of debate in a formal setting. As always we are staying up to date on the journals!
Social Studies -
We are finishing Chapter 21 - 3 Philosophies of China. To finish the chapter, students will be given two short quotes from the original texts, either Confucianism, Daoism or Legalism. They will use what they have learned about each of the philosophies to identify which text the passage is from.
Science -
In Chapter 3 of Traits and Reproduction, students question why the Darwin’s bark spider offspring at Bay Medical Company inherited different genes and, therefore, traits. Students learn how sexual reproduction leads to variation in the genes of offspring. They then learn that an offspring receives one copy of each gene from each of its parents, which can lead to several different combinations of gene versions.
Quarter 3 Progress grades are posted. Progress reports available through Infinite Campus.
