Here's what's new this week.
Aldo Leopold Nature Center Field Trip -
On Thursday we will be traveling to the Aldo Leopold Nature Center in Monona by bus from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to participate in Team building, Aquatic Field Study and a special project called “Flower, Book, Flower” during which you will create book covers from leaves, flowers and seeds plant which we'll later plant in the school garden.
In Aquatic Field Study, we will gather data on temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH and biodiversity to assess the impact of human activity in wetland systems.
You are expected to follow Cherokee school rules and represent yourself and our school in a respectful manner.
On Monday we'll writing our response to Birth Order Blues. Did the evidence you collected agree or disagree with the author's claims. In the article, the author makes the argument that being the oldest, mild child, youngest or only child influences your personality.
For the rest of the week, we'll be working on Plot elements and how author craft stories. This week we're learning about Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action and Resolution.
Our culminating writing project for this quarter is Narrative writing and we will be creating our own stories
Reading Groups-
This week we're going further into our studies characters. Students in book groups have daily reading goals to finish the books by Oct. 19th. Book groups meet once a week with me for a short conference, and will have short weekly projects, and a bigger project at the end.
Social Studies -
We're finishing Chapter 4 - The Rise of Sumerian City-States. Our chapter quiz is Tuesday. In Chapter 5 we learn more about Sumerian Civilization, and the Characteristics of Civilization - Stable food supply, Social structure, System of government, Religious system, Highly developed culture, Advances in technology and Written language.
