We have begun Unit 2 - Metabolism. Students are learning that cells need glucose and oxygen molecules from food and air in order for the body to function. Students will learn through evidence and explanation that that low levels of glucose in the cells likely indicate that the digestive system is not breaking down starch into glucose to go into the cells. We began by studying the eating & sleeping patterns of our patient, and compared those findings to studies on healthy teens. Our data shows that the patient's fatigue is not due to either her diet or sleep patterns, so now we can investigate other possible causes.
