Hello 6th Grade Students & Families-
Here's some updates from all of our Team teachers - Huberty, Accomando & Towe.
Math - from Ms. Huberty
This week we are continuing to work through Chapter 1 of the new book, working on probability. Be sure to check google classroom for all assignments.
ELA - from Mr. Accomando
Hello from Mr. Accomando's ELA class.
We are bringing our Debate Unit to a close after a long and tumultuous series of events with a FINAL called "The Great Debate". The students have the option of doing a "virtual debate" using a program called Flipgrid. They can post their debate topic and reply to others. Creating a back and forth type debate with points and counterpoints. I understand this may not be ideal for all students, but it has the potential to be fun too! We will have extra time to finish "The Great Debate". Next we will be diving into a Project Based unit that explores student interests coupled with research and a final project. More on that in the coming weeks. We are also working to develop the Literary Magazine on Google Sites. TLook for this publication towards the end of the month!
Science - Mon/Tues - from Mr. Towe
We are starting chapter 2. I will be assigning Lesson 2.1 for Monday & Tuesday. In chapter 2 we will be looking at how energy enters and leaves Earth's atmosphere. I will post the assignment in Google Class with tutorial videos for each activity. Students will have Mon-Tues to work on the lesson, and Friday work day if they have not finished.
Social Studies - Wed/Thurs - from Mr. Towe
This week students will starting our unit on Ancient Greece. We be jumping to Chapter 26 - The Rise of Democracy. I'll be posting the assignments with Tutorial videos in Google Classroom on Thursday because of the Teacher work day on Wednesday. Students will have Thursday- Friday (and the weekend if needed) to finish. This will be a shorter lesson because of the reduced
Distance Learning Expectations - Students are expected to be checking school email, and Google classrooms FOR ALL OF THEIR CLASSES daily (Mon-Fri). This is how they get updates about classwork and assignments. All teachers have daily "office hours" when they are available to help students over Zoom, email or phone.
Attendance - attendance will be taken each Friday by EACH Teacher. Students are expected to make contact with EACH teacher in order to not be marked absent for the week. Contact may include- emails, Flipgrids, Zooms, phone or text, or completion of assigned work. If a student doesn't make contact with a teacher they may be marked absent. Please make sure your students are in contact with their Core subject teachers (Huberty, Accomando, Towe) and their UA teachers every week.
Reminder about Distance Learning
If you or your student are having any challenges with assignments, technology, emotional support or any other needs please let us know and we will do everything we can to solve the problem and support you and your students.
All of our team teachers have daily office hours from 8:30-12:30. Parents or students can email, or zoom with teachers during that time. Any emails received after 3:30 pm will likely not be returned until the following work day.
