Forward Testing - Testing this year will begin the week of March 23rd, which is the week before spring break. This is when the test window opens, and we decided to do testing ASAP to accommodate for other spring happenings, and the MAP test which takes place the first week of May. 6th grade has to take 4 sections of ELA, and 2 of math.
Social Studies -
We are starting Chapter 22 - The First Emperor of China. The Emperor of Qin (chin) ruled over a united China from 221 to 210 B.C.E. His reign was one of great contrasts. He executed hundreds of enemies, and his building projects killed thousands of his own people. But he also unified Chinese government and culture. The Emperor of Qin was both a strong leader and a cruel one. It is little wonder that later Chinese historians would have very differing opinions of this ruler. In this chapter, students will read about the Emperor of Qin and form decide for themselves whether he was an effective leader or not.
Science -
As we wrap up Chapter 3 of Traits and Reproduction, students will apply what they have learned about traits, proteins, genes, and inheritance to explain variation in the spider family and help the researchers decide which spiders will be the best to breed in order to produce the desired medium silk flexibility trait.
