Language Arts -
This week we'll be looking at the Components of Argumentative Writing - Claim, Evidence, and Counter Claim, and we'll make sure we understand the differences between persuasive and argumentative writing, specifically the difference between using facts vs opinions to support a claim.
By the end of the week, we'll be writing our first MELCon paragraphs.
MELCon stands for:
M - Main Idea
E - Evidence
L - Link
Con - Conclusion
MELCon is a writing formula for structuring an effective argument.
During this unit you will researching a topic of your choice in order to gain convincing evidence to support your claim. Topics in the past have included dress codes or use of technology at school, animal testing, zoos, and kneeling during the national anthem. You will take a side on an issue, and use evidence to support your position.
Social Studies -
This week, we will conclude our study of Hinduism and Buddhism by making compare and contrast posters examining the similarities and differences between the two religions.
