Here's some updates from all of our Team teachers - Huberty, Accomando & Towe.
Math - from Ms. Huberty
We will be continuing working through Chapter 9. Starting with 9.2.2 on Monday and finishing the week with an online shopping project to practice finding percentages of a number.
ELA - from Mr. Accomando
Hello from Mr. Accomando's ELA. We are getting up to speed in ELA with our Daily Journals. These are a big part of the class as students learn important vocabulary, develop abilities to generate questions, and gain some wisdom from old sayings. These journals need to be turned in on Google Classroom and a Weekly Quiz submitted on Friday. We are moving into our unit on debates in which students will develop a debate topic by conducting research and writing a series of points and counterpoints. The debate topics are student selected, so they can choose a topic that is interesting to them. As always, make sure that you have a book that you are reading regularly!
Check in and feel free to ask questions, voice concerns, share ideas, and share.
Science - Mon/Tues - from Mr. Towe
I will be assigning Lesson 1.3 for the week of April 20. I will post the assignment in Google Class with tutorial videos for each activity. Students will have Mon-Tues to work on the lesson, and Friday work day if they have not finished.
Social Studies - Wed/Thurs - from Mr. Towe
I'll be assigning Chapter 23- Sections 5-8 for Wed & Thursday this week. I'll be posting the assignments with Tutorial videos in Google Classroom on Wednesday. Students will have Wed-Thurs to work on the lesson, and Friday work day if they have not finished.
Distance Learning Expectations - Students are expected to be checking school email, and Google classrooms FOR ALL OF THEIR TEACHERS daily (Mon-Fri). This is how they get updates about classwork and assignments. All teachers have daily "office hours" when they are available to help students over Zoom, email or phone.
Attendance - attendance will be taken each Friday by EACH Teacher. Students are expected to make contact with EACH teacher in order to not be marked absent for the week. Contact may include- emails, Flipgrids, Zooms, phone or text, or completion of assigned work. If a student doesn't make contact with a teacher they may be marked absent. Please make sure your students are in contact with their Core subject teachers (Huberty, Accomando, Towe) and their UA teachers every week.
Reminder about Distance Learning
We are all trying to figure out this new way of working. Be patient with us as we navigate through the hurdles. If you or your student are having any challenges with assignments, technology, emotional support or any other needs please let us know and we will do everything we can to solve the problem and support you and your students.
All of our team teachers have daily office hours from 8:30-12:30. Parents or students can email, or zoom with teachers during that time. Any emails received after 3:30 pm will likely not be returned until the following work day.
